Callanan 8th grade girls basketball team capped off a perfect 18-0 (A team 9-0 and B team 9-0) season on Monday night, beating McCombs 43-19 and 44-12. The Cougars used a hot start by Keyana Walker, Kenna Ledinsky, and Jaleah Lee to roar out to an early 31-10 lead at the half. The Cougars were able to get the lead up to 26 in the second half, causing a continuous clock in the 4th quarter. When the clock finally hit 00:00, Callanan finished off an undefeated season by beating McCombs 43-19. Scorers for Callanan were Keyana Walker (13), Kenna Ledinsky (10), Jaleah Lee (8), Achol Kur (6), Keonni Langford (2), Tenley Thompson (2), and Saniah Johnson (2).
Callanan B had clinched the outright city championship for B teams last Thursday, but they left no doubt who was the most dominate B team in city by beating McCombs 44-12. As was the case most of the season, Callanan was led on the court and in scorers box by Kaytlynn Jansen with eight points. Marian Harris had a superb game of her own on the defensive end and offensive end, scoring eight points of her own. Not to be outdone, Janaya Adams, Nasiyah Tillman, and Beatrice Bazizane each scored six points. Others rounding out the scoring in the B game were Vanessa Kamikazi (4), Marjorie McClain (4), and Chirstyn Caldwell-Brown (2).
